Eleanor Lynn Sommers

Maytor's second wife was Eleanor Lynn Sommers (b. about 1913 in Wisconsin), and they had two children: Maytor Charles McKinley (now Maytor H. McKinley IV) and Eleanor Lynn (deceased).

I have not been able to get much information online about Eleanor. Her parents were Charles and Emma Sommers. Both were born in Wisconsin, and both of their parents were born in Germany. Charles owned a barbershop in Ashland, WI.

Eleanore Kathleen McGeehan

I am going to begin posting on the wives of Maytor H. McKinley and their ancestry. The natural place to start is with his first wife, Eleanore K. McGeehan.

Robert McGehon (McGeehan?) was born in Ireland in 1790. At some point he emigrated to Canada after his marriage to Margaret Duggan (b. 1798, Down, Ireland, d. 3 April 1881 in Guleph, Ontario Canada) which occurred in Down, Ireland. He died on 27 Sep 1851 Erasmosa, Wellington, Ontario, Canada. They had seven children:

Catherine (b. 1828 in Ontario, Canada)

Mary (b. 1831 in Ontario, Canada)

John J. McGeehan married Mary Ann Driscol (b. 8 Aug 1933, d. 14 July 1898 in De Pere, Brown, WI) in Ontario, Canada. They had nine children:

Dennis H. McGeehan married Eleanor B. Martin (b. about 1870 in WI). They had three children; one was adopted.

Julius McGeehan (b. 1899 in Finland - adopted)

Eleanore Kathleen McGeehan (b. 20 Dec 1905 in Ashland, WI, d. 28 March 1975, Glendale, CA; interred in the Catholic cemetery in Ashland, WI)

Martin M. McGeehan (b. 11 April 1910 in Ashland, WI, d. Aug 1959)

Taking a Trip

I will being going back to Wisconsin and Michigan's U.P. in August to retrace some of the old stomping grounds of my ancestors including Houghton and Hancock, Michigan and Ashland, WI. I will also being visiting areas of my paternal grandmother's side as well as my mother's side (including her birth town of Athens, WI). Maytor Charles Hoppenyan a.k.a. Maytor Hoppenyan McKinley

Maytor Charles Hoppenyan changed his name to Maytor Hoppenyan McKinley. He was married five times, and children were produced in three of the marriages:

Marriage #1: Eleanore McGeehan - One child, born Maytor John Hoppenyan on 13 Oct 1925; now legaly known as John McGeehan McKinley although in between his name was John Dennis McGeehan;

Marriage #2: Eleanor Sommers McKinley - Two children: the first child was born Maytor Charles McKinley on 12 Oct 1938, at the time of his father's death, he was legally known as Maytor H. McKinley, Jr. His legal name now is Mayto Hoppenyan McKinley IV; the second child was Eleanor Lynn McKinley, born 11 Feb 1940, died 23 Oct 1992.

Marriage #3: Beth Durner McKinley (some records show her to be known as Lulu Beth Durner, but I have no idea how accurate the "Lulu" name is) - Two children: the first was born Mary Beth on 20 April 1943; the second was born William James on 29 Dec 1945.

Marriage #4: Dolores Fairbanks McKinley - no children.

Marriage #5: Vari Komp McKinley McCormac (she remarried after MH's death) - no children.

Mather Bernard Hoppenyan

Mather married Lillian Maude McKinley (b. 26 May 1881, d. 15 March 1950 and is interred at Inglewood Cemetery next to her husband) and they had five children:

Maytor Charles Hoppenyan b. 19 Apr 1902

Clarence b. about 1905

Ruth E. b. 10 Aug 1906

Robert b. 30 Nov 1908

Betty Ann b. about 1917

Eventually, everyone (as far as I can tell) will eventually take the maiden name as the family name and make Hoppenyan a middle name.
